Bafana Bafana Goalkeeper Killed

The 27-year-old goalkeeper who stood between Super Eagles and the crucial three points the African champions badly needed in a 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game at Cape Town last month, was expected to also lead the Bafana Bafana to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State for Nigeria’s last Group ‘A’ match of the series.

Meyiwa responded to his promotion as first choice goalkeeper following the injury sustained by Itumeleng Khune to lead Bafana Bafana  to victories over Sudan and Congo and draw results from the clash with Congo in the reverse fixture and Nigeria.

He did not concede a goal in the four matches and if South Africa defeats Sudan in eastern city of Nelspruit on November 15, they will qualify for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations tournament without Meyiwa.

This is the latest tragedy to befall South Africa’s sporting fraternity following the death of former world 800-metre champion, Mbulaeni Mulaudzi, who died in a car crash on Friday and the jailing of Paralympic hero, Oscar Pistorius, who killed his girlfriend.
